Agriculture Associations and Organizations
National Listing for General Farming, Crops and Livestock
Here you will find associations and organizations for everything from growing corn to exotic
livestock. The following is a list of categories that are linked to pages of links for general farming, alternative
crops and livestock, dairy farming, production crops and livestock, sustainable and organic crops and livestock,
and exotic livestock farming.
Farming-General: Look for organizations such as American
Farm Bureau, National Farmers Union, National Farmers Organization, National Young Farmers Educational Association,
FFA , 4-H, and Agriculture Network Information Center, then find farmers markets, direct farm markets and
farmers markets coalition.
Crops-Alternative: Looking for
something different? These organizations will have some suggestions for you. The first two sites on this page give
you the options of different grains, how to grow, regions, soils, production cost, etc. Then there are several
sites on specific grain associations, followed by a few information sites with list of crops and references,
reference books and manuals and where to find Cooperative Extension System offices.
Crops-Production: Here
you'll find associations for production field crops such as corn, cotton, canola, soybean, wheat, sorghum, alfalfa
and forage and potato. This page is a list of associations for some of the most prevalent production field
crops.
Crops-Sustainable and
Organic: Sustainable and organic crops does not completely define this page. The
organizations you'll find here are not only deeply involved in crop science, conservation and certification. Most
take on all aspects of sustainable agriculture, crops, livestock, economics, environment and health.
Livestock-Alternative:
This page is focused toward the small or hobby farm type of operation. That's not to say you couldn't turn it into
a large enterprise. Several of the sites listed here are for the miniature breeds, smaller livestock, heritage
breeds and endangered breeds. Find a livestock breed that fits your farm and maybe help save a breed in the
process. This is a small sample of the opportunities out there.
Livestock-Dairy: This is a
short list of the national and regional dairy associations. I have tried to list some of the larger organizations.
Most notably the national organizations involved in government policy, trade, research, nutrition and education,
production and marketing. There are dairy associations or cooperatives in almost every county across the United
States.
Livestock-Exotic: Exotic livestock provides unique
opportunities for farmers throughout North America. The wide range of exotic livestock make it possible to have
operations as small as a few acres to thousands of acres in size. This page has several associations and
organizations that can provide you with the information and education on some of the most popular breeds.
Livestock-Production: Here's a list of several of the
production livestock national associations. I've included listings for beef, pork, poultry, sheep, dairy goat and
meat goat. Producers can find the information, education, support and representation they need for their
business.
Livestock-Organic:
Organizations and associations involved with organic and sustainable livestock production. Offering information,
education, marketing, research, certification for the production of healthy food for organic farmers and
consumers.
